(1809-1849)

Israeli-born Ilan Rogoff has performed with many of the world's great orchestras and has appeared with such conductors as Rudolf Barshai, Herbert Blomstedt, Sergiu Commissiona, James De Priest, Antal Dorati, Gunter Herbig, Josef Krips, Stanislav Skrowaceski and Zubin Mehta. He has appeared in dozens of concerts with the Israel Philharmonic. From 1985 to 1990 Mr. Rogoff lived in South America, where he toured extensively, often performing and conducting from the keyboard piano concertos of Mozart and Beethoven. Since 1991 he has lived in Mallorca and has appeared as soloist throughout Spain. Mr. Rogoff has appeared on many distinguished recital series, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Dumbarton Series in Washington, DC, the Beethoven Festival in Bonn, the Casals Festival in Prades, and the Chopin Festival in Valldemossa. He has recorded extensively. He appeared with the Virginia Symphony in 1986, playing and conducting Beethoven's Emperor Concerto.

The first performances of Chopin's two piano concertos took place in his parents' apartment prior to their being performed in public. A small group of musicians, presumably a string quintet, was involved. The original parts are in the Prague museum. Mr. Rogoff has recorded both concertos in their chamber version with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra.
